The course builder

Build a course as an outline of sections, topics, lessons, sub-lessons and quizzes.

Watch the how-to: Build your first course in WordPress

A course is an outline: sections, topics, lessons, sub-lessons and quizzes. Students see the same outline on the course page, with each section shown once and a count of what it holds.

Add content

  1. Open a course in its editor and find the Add content panel.
  2. Check the Adding to: line. It says where the new item will land, such as the course itself, a section or a topic.
  3. Type a title and click Create and add. The lesson, topic or quiz is created and placed there. It is published if you are allowed to publish that type, and saved as a draft otherwise.
  4. Or pick an existing lesson or quiz from the list and add it.

If a list is empty, the panel says what to do next. Choosing Add lesson with nothing selected tells you to pick one first.

Arrange it

  • Drag a lesson or quiz into a section, topic or lesson.
  • While dragging, move the pointer left or right to step out or in a level.
  • Use the + buttons to add items without dragging.
  • Every lesson, topic and quiz row has an Edit link. It, and the row title, open the editor in a new tab, so unsaved rearranging is not lost.

Lessons can group under a topic inside a section, or sit directly in the course. Quizzes can sit in the course, a section, a topic, a lesson or a sub-lesson. The pages inside a lesson are called sub-lessons.

Rules for each course

  • Set prerequisites and completion rules per course.
  • A passed quiz is ticked as done on the course page.

Who can enrol

Courses can be open (no signup) or use one-click free enrollment. Charging for access needs Turgor Exam Engine Pro.

Show your courses on the site

Published courses are listed at /courses/ on a new site. To place them on any page, use [turgee_courses]. A course’s own progress bar and lesson list have shortcodes too. See the Shortcodes reference.

To add a video to a lesson, see Lesson videos.

Moved from LearnDash? A site that never ran LearnDash uses this plugin’s own content types. A site moved from LearnDash keeps its existing ones, so no links change.
